Description : Beophwasa is a temple based on Cheontaejong (a sect of Korean Buddhism). This temple was a chapel and a shelter for Cheonghaejin merchants, trade merchants and monks heading to Tang China. The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage has excavated the temple twice and has discovered temple sites (7 sites), roof tiles, pleated pattern bottles, Haemurigup Cheongja (celadon porcelain; flat, footed pieces with a hollowed centre) and Baekja (white porcelain). With the discovery of the pleated pattern bottles (8-9th century) and the Haemurigup Cheongja, this temple is thought to have been constructed in the late United Silla Dynasty or early Goryeo period.
