• Cheonghaejin built in 3rd year of reign of King Heungdeok (year 828)
• Closed off Cheonghaejin in year 851

Goryeo Dynasty

• Admiral Songjing entered island during Sambyeolcho Rebellion in 12th year of reign of King Wonjong (year 1271)
• Permitted residents in the first year of reign of King Gongmin (year 1352)

Joseon Dynasty

• Built Garipojin in 17th year of reign of King Jungjong (year 1522)
• According to imperial order of Korean Empire Government in the 33rd year of reign of King Gojong, established Wando-gun with 19 myeons by combining 75 manned islands and 135 unmanned islands in Yeongam, Haenam, Gangjin and Jangheung
